ICYMI: Democrat Joe Donnelly Confirms He Was Deciding Vote Against Obamacare Repeal
Jun 20, 2018

INDIANAPOLIS - Last weekend at the Indiana Democrat State Convention, Democrat Joe Donnelly confirmed that it was his vote in July 2017 that blocked the repeal of the disastrous Obamacare law, which has resulted in higher premiums, lost coverage and health care headaches for Hoosiers across the state.

He said:
"In an election they said we’d never win, you were able to get me elected into the United States Senate. And when that vote came up last year, we were able to protect healthcare by one vote."

The bill, which failed 49-51, would have required just one senator to switch his or her vote in support of repeal in order to pass. By voting no, Democrat Donnelly ensured that Hoosiers would continue to be saddled with a dysfunctional health care system that has proven to give Hoosiers higher premiums and fewer health care choices.

“For years, Democrat Donnelly has been telling Hoosiers that Obamacare needs to be fixed, while at the same time, voting to preserve this disastrous law every time it comes up for a vote in Washington,” said Indiana Republican Party Chairman Kyle Hupfer. “Now, faced with the reality that he can’t even keep his hard-core Democrat supporters in line after months of touting his supposed support for President Trump, Democrat Donnelly is doubling down on his embrace of Obamacare and is finally conceding that he was, in fact, the deciding vote to perpetuate the premium spikes, lost coverage and overall chaos and disarray brought about by this law.”

While Donnelly says that he wants to "fix issues with the health care law and improve our health care system," he continues to vote against every opportunity to repeal Obamacare and replace it with real health care solutions.

“Stay tuned,” Hupfer added. “Over the coming days and through November, we will continue to remind Hoosiers of the many times Democrat Donnelly misled them in support of the failed health care policy of Obamacare.”
