Chairman's statement
INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana Republican Party Chairman Kyle Hupfer released the following statement after Justice Anthony Kennedy's announced that he plans to retire from the U.S. Supreme Court at the end of the month:
"By appointing Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court last year, President Donald Trump kept his promise to Americans to put another constitutional conservative on the bench.
"Now, President Trump has the opportunity to shape the direction of the court, and our nation, for generations to come by choosing yet another mainstream conservative with a solid reputation and impeccable record to join Justice Gorsuch on our country’s highest court. But he cannot do it alone.
"President Trump needs reinforcements in the Senate to block Democrat obstruction and confirm his choice for the Supreme Court.
"No matter when this vote ultimately takes place, today’s news changes the November equation by putting added pressure on Democrat Joe Donnelly and increasing the importance of electing Mike Braun, a proven conservative ally of President Trump, to the United States Senate.
"Who knows what Democrat Donnelly will do if he’s faced with this confirmation vote. But we know, for sure, what Mike Braun will do. He will always stand with President Trump. And that’s why we need him in the Senate."
