Donnelly Votes for Failed Democrat Agenda, Including Opposing Tax Reform

INDIANAPOLIS - After more than a decade of being a Washington, D.C. Democrat, Joe Donnelly has built a record of supporting failed Democrat policies, especially when it comes to federal taxes.

After seven years of "F" grades from the National Taxpayers Union, Donnelly's Democrat voting record on taxes reached a crescendo in December 2017, when he voted against President Donald Trump's Tax Cuts & Jobs Act, which is already putting more money in Hoosier pockets. A nonpartisan study found that federal tax reform will create 7,228 new Hoosier jobs and boost the after-tax income for middle-income Hoosiers by $617.03/year. (Tax Foundation, 12/18/2017)

Democrat Donnelly claimed that his vote against federal tax reform was “one of the easiest ones I’ve seen,” calling the bill, which lowered tax rates for all, “wrong.” (Remarks At Faith In Indiana, 4/21/18, Minutes 3:35-5:40)

This continues years of anti-taxpayer votes, which included at least 11 votes in favor of the death tax. That's while Democrat Donnelly pushed for tax increases in 2012 and 2013 as part of balanced budget debates.

Donnelly's "Missed Opportunity" Leading to Bonuses & Raises: While Democrat Donnelly said that "[tax reform] is a significant missed opportunity," Hoosier companies disagree. Companies including Albanese Confectionery, Family Express, Centaur Gaming, FedEx, Comcast and many Indiana-based banks are giving their employees raises and bonuses. That's while Duke Energy, Indiana-Michigan Power and NIPSCO are passing along savings to their customers. (The New York Times, 12/20/17; Americans for Tax Reform, accessed 7/5/2018)

Tax Reform is Good for Hoosiers: A nonpartisan study shows that tax reform will help companies create 7,228 new jobs in Indiana and boost the after-tax income for a middle-income family in Indiana by $617.03. Ninety percent of Americans are seeing higher take-home pay due directly to the tax reform legislation that Democrat Donnelly voted against. (Tax Foundation, 12/18/2017; CNN, 1/11/2018)
