Farmers qualify for disaster aid

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved emergency aid for Hoosier farmers who have suffered production losses from heavy rain and flooding this spring and summer.

The USDA announced Wednesday that 53 Indiana counties have been declared disaster areas, including Allen, Adams, Huntington, Kosciusko and Wells counties in northeast Indiana.

Low-interest federal loans are available to farmers in the designated counties.
