State chamber backs McCormick for schools chief

The Indiana Chamber of Commerce on Monday announced its endorsement of Jennifer McCormick, the Republican candidate for superintendent of public instruction. It’s just the third time the state’s powerful business lobby has formally endorsed a candidate in a statewide race.

McCormick, the Yorktown Community Schools superintendent, is facing incumbent Glenda Ritz, a Democrat whose strong ties to the Indiana State Teachers Association have placed her at odds with the chamber and other supporters of education reforms, such as the state’s private school voucher program.
