Gov. Mike Pence signs bill creating unified fire training system

INDIANAPOLIS – A new law will give Indiana firefighters access to high-quality training and a standardized curriculum that public safety officials say is long overdue.

Republican Gov. Mike Pence signed a measure Thursday that will establish a unified fire academy and training program in Indiana. The proposal was part of Pence’s legislative agenda.

Indiana’s current program is regional and training decisions are made on a local level and then approved by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.
