Panel OKs Coats’ bill to protect nonprofits

The U.S. Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday approved a bill introduced by Sen. Dan Coats, R-Ind., that would require the IRS to notify nonprofit organizations if their tax-exempt status is being revoked.

The legislation, called the NOTICE Act, advanced to the full Senate for consideration. Coats is a member of the committee that passed his bill.
