Press Release

Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks (R-IN5) released the following statement after being asked to serve on the Select Committee on the Events Surrounding the 2012 Terrorist Attack in Benghazi:

“Serving on this select committee is a solemn responsibility. Four Americans were killed in the tragic September 11, 2012 terrorist attack on our embassy in Benghazi, Libya. Many questions about the events that took place before, during and in the aftermath of the attack still exist. We have a duty to the families of the victims and the American people to unveil the whole truth of this tragic incident and seek appropriate accountability.

I’d like to thank Speaker Boehner for the trust he has placed in me to help conduct a fair and thorough investigation. Representative Gowdy is uniquely qualified to lead this effort and I look forward to working with him and the other members of the select committee.”

Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks is a former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana and former Deputy Mayor for the city of Indianapolis. Prior to serving in Congress, she was the Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Ivy Tech Community College. She currently serves on the House Committees on Ethics, Homeland Security and Education and the Workforce.
