INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana Republican Party Chairman Tim Berry issued the following statement today responding to President Obama's speech given at Ivy Tech Community College:
"Today, Hoosiers heard more of the same rhetoric from the president regarding his one-size-fits all, liberal policies. His higher education proposal fails to address college affordability as costs are merely shifted from individuals to the taxpayer. Our Indiana community colleges are now threatened under Obamacare, as they face balancing the costs of health insurance for some workers by cutting the hours and pay of others.
"The president's recent budget proposal is a $4 trillion spending plan with no focus on reducing the nation's debt and no regard for the heavy burden it would place on generations of taxpayers. His budget doesn't balance and his proposal for $2.1 trillion in new taxes would hurt Americans looking to get back to work and small businesses working to grow.
"It's time President Obama puts down his political wish list and stops ignoring the nation's long-term problems. It's time he starts working with our Republican-led Congress and takes up serious proposals to help move our country forward."
