Buttigieg Would Finish in Third Behind Biden and Sanders
INDIANAPOLIS – Despite serving as mayor of a mid-sized Indiana city for nearly two terms and non-stop glowing media coverage from national outlets, a new poll shows that if Indiana's 2020 presidential primary election were today, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg would lose his home state.
“Hoosiers can see through all the fluff," said Pete Seat, executive director of strategic communications and talent development for the Indiana Republican Party. "While Pete Buttigieg is the darling of the national media elite, he’s still lagging behind in Indiana. That's because when it comes to his job performance as mayor, Hoosiers know that crime, infrastructure and jobs are still major issues in South Bend. Just wait until folks find out he doesn’t even offer his campaign employees health care coverage.”
The poll, conducted by national polling firm We Ask America, shows that Buttigieg would finish in third place with 20% of the Democrat vote behind former Vice President Joe Biden (33%) and U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders. (23%).
This news follows reports this week by NBC News that Buttigieg is the only Democrat presidential primary candidate who does not provide his campaign employees with health insurance coverage, even while he travels the country campaigning in favor of single-payer "Medicare for All."
