INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (June 22, 2022) – Indiana Republican Party Chairman Kyle Hupfer released the following statement on Governor Eric Holcomb calling a special legislative session to act on his plan to return $1 billion to Hoosiers:
"At a time of skyrocketing inflation and soaring gas prices caused by the extreme, anti-energy agenda of the Biden administration and DC Democrats, Governor Holcomb's proposal to return $1 billion to taxpayers is a welcome sign of relief.
"Due to hardworking Hoosiers, responsible Republican fiscal leadership, and Indiana's growing economy, our state is in a position to take this unprecedented move to return $1 billion to Hoosiers at a time when it is sorely needed, providing direct, flexible relief at a scale much larger than that of a suspension of the gas tax for three months.
"While a long-term solution can only come from the Biden administration reversing its disastrous course and producing American energy again, Governor Holcomb's proposal is the fairest, fastest, and most efficient way to return money to Hoosiers' pockets and provide some relief during the summer months."
