Statement from Indiana GOP on HIP 2.0
May 15, 2014 Indiana Republican Party

Indiana Republican Party State Chairman Tim Berry issued the following statement today on Gov. Mike Pence's announcement to expand the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP):

"The Healthy Indiana Plan is a bipartisan supported and patient-driven alternative to traditional Medicaid,” Berry said. “Gov. Mike Pence’s plan to expand this successful program will help cover many of Indiana’s uninsured. Our state is leading the way in providing innovative yet fiscally sound ways to deliver health services to those in need – all without raising taxes. ”

Pence revealed his plans today to replace Medicaid for many Hoosiers with HIP 2.0 which allows participants to manage their own health-care coverage and encourages fiscal responsibility. More information about HIP 2.0, including the waiver itself, is available at www.HIP.in.gov.

In 2008, HIP began as a pilot Medicaid program to cover uninsured Hoosiers whose incomes were too high to qualify for Medicaid, but too low to purchase private health insurance coverage.
